Bio

Jerry Chan spent much of his childhood in the old Chinatown movie theaters of San Francisco, watching Hong Kong double features and imagining he was a kung fu master.  He loved, in particular, the action films of Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Chow Yun Fat and has wanted to direct action films like those ever since.  As a student at Princeton University, he took every film course available while pursuing a degree in computer science—a skillset that has become ever more practical in today’s digital film environment.

With his mind set on becoming a filmmaker, Jerry graduated from Princeton and immediately enrolled at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.  While at USC, he was awarded the Harold Lloyd Production Scholarship as well as the John Frankenheimer Directing Scholarship for his outstanding work as a filmmaker.  His MFA thesis film, Fast Money, was a cautionary tale about the unintended consequences a Chinese-American gang member faces after committing his first home invasion robbery, and it featured a gritty, raw fight sequence between stars Archie Kao (CSI, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, The People I’ve Slept With) and veteran character actor Dana Lee (Lethal Weapon 4, Rambo).

Upon graduating from USC, Jerry formed Ringleader Productions with several classmates.  The company has been focused on music video production for the past four years, producing videos for artists ranging from Master P to The Doobie Brothers to The Airborne Toxic Event.  While he enjoys directing and editing music videos, Jerry’s focus moving forward is on building a feature film directing career.  To that end, he is currently developing several projects with his producing partner, Archie Kao, with the hopes of making his feature directorial debut in 2012/13.
